Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.
Then all the people who were at the gate and the elders said, “We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman, who is coming into your house, like Rachel and Leah, who together built up the house of Israel. May you act worthily in Ephrathah and be renowned in Bethlehem,
Song of songs 6:1
Others: Where has your beloved gone, O most beautiful among women? Where has your beloved turned, that we may seek him with you?
Oh how joyous it is to live in community! We need each other. There can be a temptation to live marriage at home, but we need friends around us to champion us on. It brings great perspective to get out with another couple, or do something with just a group of women, or when Glenn goes out for guy time. We come back refreshed and appreciating each other more.
Women and men can have very different perspectives and needs. It is releasing and life giving to be able to talk about these with others and to know that your challenges are not unique. However, this IS NOT liberty to gossip, or put down, your spouse!
My action for today: Today I found so much refreshment going to a mums’ group and then having lunch with a married friend. It was great to chat relationships, marriage and motherhood with other godly women who are also pursuing God’s best in these areas.
My prayer for today: Thank you, Lord, for designing us for community. Thank you for the loving community of friends and family around Glenn and I. We are blessed to have supportive family, church, and friends. Build us up in our times apart and let these times give us perspective, refreshment and deeper appreciation for each other. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
